Raisin of Reason: Atheist to join BBC religion board

Obama Legal Team Wants Defendants' Rights Limited
One more notch down on my trust meter. Wire-tapping. States secrets. Not prosecuting torturers.
Obama is dangerously close to becoming my enemy. I'll be keeping a log of this and see how it influences my vote in 2012.

We need to do this for the sake of our future. For this isn’t about looking backward, it’s about looking forward — because it’s about reclaiming America’s soul.
That's the key, and that's what has bugged me most about Obama's pathetic proclamations of the need to look forward, not backwards. That's what justice IS! Prosecuting crimes is premised on what happened - which is the past, but is for the purpose of a better future in the hopes that similar crimes will be deterred.
For someone as smart as Obama to espousing garbage like "look forward, not backwards" with regard to our leaders who broke our most important laws is perplexing. I just don't get it.

Money quote
I don’t know about you, but I think America is capable of uncovering the truth and enforcing the law even while it goes about its other business.
I believe it was a certain Senator Obama who said "a president should be able to walk and chew gum at the same time."
Word.

Hooray for Shep Smith

A glimmer of sanity from the right
There’s only one way to drain this poison, and it isn’t further breast-beating, from the administration or its foes. Bring on the trials, and the punishment.

Saddam's Sons vs. Sheikh's brother
Funny how silent they are in the face of videotape evidence a brother of one of our oil rich benefactors torturing his own people.
A video tape smuggled out of the United Arab Emirates shows a member of the country's royal family mercilessly torturing a man with whips, electric cattle prods and wooden planks with protruding nails.
A man in a UAE police uniform is seen on the tape tying the victim's arms and legs, and later holding him down as the Sheikh pours salt on the man's wounds and then drives over him with his Mercedes SUV.
In a statement to ABC News, the UAE Ministry of the Interior said it had reviewed the tape and acknowledged the involvement of Sheikh Issa bin Zayed al Nahyan, brother of the country's crown prince, Sheikh Mohammed.

Clever?
While all this might be well and good for pacifying the general public, and those not well versed in economics, it can't possibly be fooling those who really matter in this at the end of the day: our Asian creditors.
Does anyone seriously believe we can financially outsmart our Chinese and Japanese benefactors with "clever" accounting tricks?

Hope is ...
... A glass of cool water on a hot day.
Hope is NOT your "president of hope" protecting torturors by word or
deed by issuing morally bankrupt proclamations implying that
circumstances made torture excusable.
The difference is that a drink of cold water on a hot day gives one
hope that it won't be hot forever. But proclaiming you will not go
after torturors gives hope to those who may torture, and deprives hope
of those who seek justice and human dignity.
Obama, whatever his long-term motives, has just flushed his message of
hope down the toilet.
Remember this day: 4/20/09. The day Obama's message of hope died, and
marked the downward turn of the Obama presidency.

HopeOver
For me, the reason for Obama seriously blowing it comes down to this:
Warrant-less wiretapping
States Secrets privilege
Bagram
Add to that his juvenile posturing on the question of legalizing marijuana, and trying to preserve the status quo with the Wall Street.
