Will she bow out? NO!

NOPE. I called it.

I can see Obama making the argument that the best way to unite the country is to start by uniting the party, but that would be obvious and shallow. Putting Clinton on the ticket might create an image of unity, but there are too many voters who simply will not show up to vote if she is on the ticket, this one included.

If Obama caved in and added her to the ticket, how can he be perceived as someone who wouldn't cave to our enemies? If he can't stand up to Hillary, then who can he stand up to? He has painted her as the candidate of old politics, and he can't be the candidate of new politics if she's on the ticket. She brings nothing that plenty of other Democrats can't bring, and most likely without that notorious baggage. How would that be turning the page?

No, putting Clinton on the ticket is an endorsement of her nasty and repugnant style of politics that this country doesn't need. I'd be willing to wager that the thousands of Clintonuts who are voting with their vajayjays instead of their consciences can be let go and made up elsewhere. I'm also betting that any Dem behind Clinton on the ticket is probably just covering his or her ass in order to avoid a nasty 3am phone call from an angry red-faced Bill.

Sadly, people vote their emotions, and there's often little rationality to emotions. Unless these Clintonuts can be talked down from their ledges, they may actually do something as stupid as voting for McCain. Imagine how they'll feel two years into a McCain presidency.

Hillraisers for McCant?

Outside of the RBC meeting in DC today, some Clinton supporters showed their true colors.





Are these women Republican plants, or do they really think this way? If they are for real, they're doing a terrible job at dispelling the myth of women being inherently irrational. What could be more irrational than voting against all of your principles and choosing your opponent whose platform and ideology is anathema to everything you stand for, over your competitor from the same party whose platform and ideology is nearly identical to yours?

Would Hillary supporters so willingly do their best to hand over the the future of America to John McCant, which would ensure at least another four years of disastrous Bush-style governing, the appointments of many more conservative judges and one or two justices, further erosion of our civil liberties, relinquishing even more control of our country to corporations, increased environmental devastation, and a possible complete regression of women's reproductive rights?

If Clinton supporters would rather do this just to keep Barack Obama out of the White House, then that would make Clinton supporters useless to the Democratic Party, and they should be driven out. I assert that any Clinton supporter who has threatened to vote for McCain should be driven out of the party.

If you know of any Clinton supporters, you should call them out and renounce them. That kind of behavior is despicable.

One last note:
I must say that the behavior of the Clinton supporters at the RBC meeting today has been perfectly consistent with the behavior of Clinton supporters I have encountered while campaigning for Obama. These people have been horrible, they have been exceedingly rude, they have been mean and nasty to the core. Voting for Hillary Clinton means endorsing this very type of sickening behavior. Who wants four years of that?

Done deal? Doubt it.

After Clinton drone Harold Ickes said Hillary advised that they would reserve the right to take the FL/MI delegate matter to the credentials committee at the convention, along with [her] horde persistently disrupting the RBC meeting with their shrill chants and cries of "DENVER! DENVER!" how can anyone expect that Clinton will not continue with her scorched earth strategy?

Chuck Todd and a few others on the net seem to think that she won't, but I think Rachel Maddow called it squarely. "Stepping back from the trees," she sees Clinton's slash and burn forest. She takes Ickes's threat as credible, and so do I. Clinton has been given a long leash in this campaign, and every time someone gives her the benefit of the doubt, they have to eat their words. This time is no different. There are plenty of missiles left in Clinton's win-at-all-costs arsenal.

The DNC, RBC, and Obama campaign wanted only one objective coming out of this meeting today, and that was to begin uniting the party. Clinton supporters had zero interest in this objective ahead of the meeting and after, as was clearly evidenced by their abhorrently disruptive behavior inside the hall, and outside.

Clinton and her supporters want nothing short of Obama NOT becoming president. If you don't believe me, see my next post.

She represents all of this, and I feel comfortable saying this after her Horribly Rotten and Callous remarks when she invoked the assassination of Bobby Kennedy as a reason for her campaign to continue. Make no mistake about it, she did this on purpose. She did not mis-speak. She's been playing this game too long to not know the power of words. The only difference this time is that she miscalculated the impact those carefully chosen words would have.

Olbermann properly takes her to the woodshed for that - and her many other - stupid remarks this campaign season.

Sexism be damned, but hooray for racism!

Hillary can piss and moan all day long about sexism and mysoginy in the media and how that's affected her campaign, but it's perfectly fine for her to campaign for the votes of "hard working white people" who won't vote for a black man. Sexism be damned, but hooray for racism! She's repugnant.

Clinton's big win in WV?

Those looking to make a big deal out of Clinton's 67% to 26% (41%) win in WV should consider that it is not nearly as big as his 74% to 26% (48%) win in KS.

To put this in sharper relief, consider his other biggest wins against her:

AK - Obama +50%
CO - Obama +35%
DC - Obama +52%
GA - Obama +36%
HI - Obama +52%
ID - Obama +62%
MN - Obama +34%
NE - Obama +36%
WA - Obama +37%
Dems Abroad - Obama +33.3%

Obama got 67% or more in AK, CO, DC, GA, HI, ID, KS, NE, and WA.

The best part is that tonight, Clinton actually underperformed expectations set by polling, and even by their own metrics.

Really, this should be embarrassing to have one of the biggest names in politics and to consistently perform so badly overall against a relative no-name.

Clinton's math problem

Well, it should be obvious to just about anyone, including those uneducated hard working, white Americans. Clinton has already lost.

Magic number - 2,025

Obama - 1883.5 to date, 141.5 needed to win
Clinton - 1716 to date, 306 needed to win

Total remaining delegates: 430.5

So, do the math. It's not that hard.

Indianans Are Worthless White N*****rs?

The folks at FirstRead have been doing their homework, and it appears that this video may have been doctored. While I can't say I'm surprised, I still stand by my assertion that it is believable, as are the points I noted that inform my opinions on the Clintons and their positions on the side of whatever gets them votes. That said, I don't condone this type of dishonest attack on anyone. It's quite shameful.

Making its way around the tubes this morning is this video that just surfaced from the '92 Clinton campaign.

A former aide to President Bill Clinton, and current informal adviser to Sen. Hillary Clinton, expressed outrage and shock on Friday after a videotape from 1992 surfaced apparently showing him describing Indianans as "white n---rs."

Mickey Kantor, who served as campaign chairman during Clinton's 1992 run for the White House and says he has offered help and advice to Sen. Clinton, insisted that the tape was a fraud and that he was exploring legal steps against the individual who posted it online.

"I've never used that word in my entire life, ever, under any circumstance, ever," an angry Kantor told The Huffington Post, citing his and his parent's work fighting for civil rights. "I have listened to [the video] and so have you. You can't tell what it is I'm saying in that second sentence, you can't decipher that."

The video, which spread through the Internet like wildfire on Friday morning, shows Kantor with fellow former Bill Clinton staffers James Carville and George Stephanopoulos discussing results from the general election. In the footage, which is excerpted from the 1993 film The War Room, Kantor approaches the two aides and appears to say, "Look at Indiana -- wait, wait, look at Indiana. 42-40. It doesn't matter if we win, those people are shit. ... How would you like to be a worthless white n****r?"

Hiring "the best" libel lawyers? Sounds like Mickey's being a bit defensive. Folks don't usually get defensive unless they're insecure, guilty, or both.

I wouldn't be surprised in the least. With the Clintons, they are only on your side if it is politically expedient. That explains why Bill has been mocking, dissing, and brushing off blacks in this election, and why Hillary is sidling up with the vast right-wing conspiracy, and pandering to the lower income/lesser educated rural folks. I tend to believe this video is accurate because it fits the Clintonian model. Just remember how much Hillary pandered to the folks in Iowa and Mississippi, and South Carolina, and other states, only to completely dismiss them as being unimportant after she lost those races. Should anyone be surprised that she ("Rich people --- God bless us..." as quoted to Bill O'Reilly) considers everyone inferior, and that in all her benevolence, she is here to save them from angry black men? Would it be surprising that key figures in her campaign are the same as her? Like minds attract like, they say. Consider Carville turning on Richardson, now that Richardson is no longer politically useful. Consider Bill Clinton disrespecting black voters, now that they are no longer supporting Hillary. It doesn't take much imagination to see that the Clintons are nothing more than opportunistic panderers.

Lets see if the MSM will be all over this like they were with Wright. I'm not going to hold my breath though, as I am addicted to oxygen.

Sidney Blumenthal is an enemy of the Progressive Movement

The "man" that is credited with coining the term "vast right-wing conspiracy," also a rabid Clinton supporter, has aligned himself - as Clinton has - with members of said VRWC in attacking Obama. We all know the Clinton campaign will "say anything, do anything" to win, and they know no shame whatsoever, but in aligning themselves with their former enemies, they have themselves become that very enemy.

Progressives must know that Hillary Clinton and her supporters are not friends of the progressive movement, they are the enemy.

Anyone reading this who is also a Salon reader, should contact the editors and publishers at Salon and tell them it is time to stop sleeping with the enemy. Blumenthal's articles can no longer be read without suspicion, and as an enemy of progressives, his writings must be viewed with skepticism.

$10 Million Dollar Pile of Crap

Despite what is being reported, blogged, clarified, retracted, etc. about Hillrod raising $10MM overnight, I'm predicting the truth will soon be revealed that this money did not actually come from new donors. Knowing the Clintons as we do, my guess is that there's some funny business going on here. Someone needs to start digging into FEC records, and maybe look into a very large chunk of money suddenly going absent from the Clintons' personal funds or investments.

Only time will tell, but I'm not buying that $10MM pile of crap.

Losing by Winning

As I posted earlier, she cannot win. She did not reach the 12 point threshold she needed to keep her candidacy viable. She might have won the primary in PA, but she lost the primary. As Robert Creamer writes:

The Pennsylvania Primary was Hillary Clinton's last chance to deliver a game changing blow to Obama's campaign for the nomination. She failed to deliver.

Pennsylvania provided her with her final real opportunity to knock the wheels off the Obama campaign. She needed a crushing victory of 18% to 25% to have any real chance of altering the math or the psychology. Demographically, Pennsylvania was made for Hillary: the second oldest state in the nation, heavily blue collar, Catholic and rural -- Hillary's voter profile. She started with a lead of almost 20 points. But her final margin -- which the Pennsylvania Secretary of State says was only 9.2% -- fell far short of what was needed to stop Obama's nomination.

...

All that remains for Clinton are more opportunities for her own campaign to be shut down. If she loses Indiana and North Carolina it will be extremely hard for her to continue. But there is no longer any opportunity for her to defeat Obama.

Clinton's may have won last night, but she failed to do what she needed to do to derail Obama's march to the nomination. In retrospect, Pennsylvania will appear as Clinton's Waterloo.

Hillary Clinton scored a decisive victory against Barack Obama in Tuesday's Pennsylvania primary. But underlying the numbers, there is a new kind of inevitability on the horizon. Certainly her campaign will use the night's victory to propel the race forward into Indiana and North Carolina, hoping against hope that few noticed what actually transpired. But with her luck running as perilously low as her campaign war chest, it would seem improbable that the media would provide her cover yet again.

After tonight, despite an apparent ten point victory in Pennsylvania, Hillary Clinton is no longer electable in a general election.

All there is for Obama supporters to do now is to ignore the Main Stream Media as is struggles, stumbles, and falls all over itself, and then climbs up its own collective ass to spin some sort of blathering bullshit that serves no other purpose than to creative some sort of false and useless narrative about this campaign in order to sell more advertising to be shoved down the throats of all those who are unfortunate enough to not see past their true intent.

Actually, one more thing Obama supporters can do is to support the Obama campaign. Donate a few dollars to the campaign, or make some phone calls to North Carolina or Indiana, or send nice emails to the precinct captains and volunteers in those states (here, here).

This is a little old right now, but still worth a mention. This past April Sunday was definitely 4-20 for Hillary. I wonder what she was smoking?

Here she is lashing out at Obama like a post-menopausal freak:

Obama: "You have a real choice in this election. Either Democrat would be better than John McCain. And all three of us would be better than George Bush."

Clinton: "We need a nominee who will take on John McCain, not cheer on John McCain."

Here's what she said last month:

"I think that since we now know Sen. (John) McCain will be the nominee for the Republican Party, national security will be front and center in this election. We all know that. And I think it's imperative that each of us be able to demonstrate we can cross the commander-in-chief threshold...I believe that I've done that. Certainly, Sen. McCain has done that and you'll have to ask Sen. Obama with respect to his candidacy."

Also from last month:

Again, just like Republiscums, the term hypocrisy does not exist in her vocabulary, at least as far as she is concerned. It is being absurd, but entirely predictable. This ranks right up there with her confusing her vote to authorize Bush to invade Iraq with being against the war, and that Obama was the flip-flopper because he voted to support the troops.

Ignore the spin...

...she can't win.

Without a minimum of a 12 point win today, her campaign is doomed. Whatever win she manages to pull out today, her gains will be erased two weeks from now in North Carolina, and very possibly in Indiana.

Oh yeah, she wants to nuke Iran.

The Bizarro World of Hillary Clinton

Just like Republicans, the Clintons have mastered the art of projecting their own negatives and misdeeds on their opponents. As Ze Frank sung, it's "say the opposite, say the opposite." But this bit of news is completely whacko.

Richard Mellon Scaife (of right wing conspiracy fame) endorsed Clinton in the Pennsylvania Democratic primary. Scaife owns the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, which threw its backing to Clinton today. It cites Clinton’s “political courage” in particular for sitting down with its editorial board. (There, she famously injected herself into the Rev. Jeremiah Wright controversy.)

The paper said, in part: "Clinton's decision to sit down with the Trib was courageous, given our longstanding criticism of her. That is no small matter: Political courage is essential in a president. Clinton has demonstrated it; Obama has not."

This is the same Richard Mellon-Scaife who did his very best to destroy Bill Clinton's presidency with fabricated conspiracies.

Having a tea party with your former arch-nemesis does not show political courage, especially when that nemesis is also the mortal enemy of your fellow competitor (Obama), and your compatriots (Democrats). It's more like "my enemy's enemy is my friend" sort of thing. Making the rounds on the right-wing networks is also not politically courageous, is politically disingenuous, especially when most Democrats avoid these dens of lies because their ultimate agenda is anathema to theirs.

As we watch Joe Lieberman morph into Zell Miller, it seems that Hillary Clinton is morphing into Lieberman. All DINOs cum Republicans-lite. Any progressive-minded Democrat should be terrified by this.

Hillary Clinton is making deals with devils, and we all know how those stories end.

"We have been less successful in caucuses because it brings out the activist base of the Democratic Party. MoveOn didn't even want us to go into Afghanistan. I mean, that's what we're dealing with. And you know they turn out in great numbers. And they are very driven by their view of our positions, and it's primarily national security and foreign policy that drives them. I don't agree with them. They know I don't agree with them. So they flood into these caucuses and dominate them and really intimidate people who actually show up to support me."

SNAP! Take that party activists. Hillrod doesn't need your votes in the general.

Make that 4

Regarding Hillary Clinton saying "Screw 'em" when referring to the issue of Southern White voters turning against Bill Clinton and Democrats in '95, another attendee - while not confirming the exact quote - does corroborate the claims of three others about her tone and tenor at that meeting.

Barber reports in his 2001 book that Hillary Clinton said "Screw 'em" about southern working class whites who did not support Bill Clinton. Two other scholar-particiants, Alan Wolfe and Harry Boyte, agree she said this. Reported demurrals (and not a clear denial) come from Clinton staffers Bruce Reed and Don Baer, not from the independent intellectuals in attendance. But independent witnesses who keep notes trump employees any day.

I have gone back to my 1995 notes to check my recollections of the event. My notes do not have any exact words, so I am not going to try to corroborate a particular phrase from Hillary Clinton or any other speaker.

But what is clear in both in my memory and my notes is that there was extensive, hard-nosed discussion about why masses of voters did not support Clinton or trust government or base their choices on economic as opposed to what people saw as peripheral life-style concerns. Hillary Clinton was among the most cold-blooded analysts in attendance. She spoke of ordinary voters as if they were a species apart, and showed interest only in the political usefulness of their choices -- usefulness to the Clinton administration, that is.

60+4=64

M.S. Bellows over at HuffPo offers this illuminating scenario for Clinton's strategy of playing the Republican foil against Obama in this primary:

Here's the real math behind Clinton's continued campaign: 60 plus 4 = 64. Clinton's 60 years old. She knows she won't get the nomination, or the Presidency, eight years from now when she's 68 (only 3 years younger than McCain is now). But she can get it in 2012, when she's only 64 - unless Obama's already in the White House, in which case he'll almost certainly be renominated. If Obama wins this election, Clinton will never be President. If he loses, Clinton gets another shot. So Clinton strings this thing out - and does everything she can to pull Obama down - while Republican strategists cheer her on, not because she realistically believes she can win in '08, but to preserve her shot at '12.

If this really is her strategy, it's about as horrendously stupid as can be. Should she succeed in damaging Obama enough to lose against McCain, she can kiss her political career goodbye. She will have disenfranchised so many democrats in the process, so much so that there will be no second chance four years from now. She wouldn't survive another senate run in New York, let alone mount another presidential bid. And who is to say that Obama wouldn't attempt another run?

I don't see McCain winning against Obama in any scenario. White Republiscums® will vote for McCain no matter what, short of his being exposed as a pedophile or having had sex with a man. Anyone on the fence will be feeling the financial crunch so badly come November, after having spent the summer paying over $4 per gallon of gas and massively high electric bills from running the AC to survive record high temperatures. Then as fall sets in a winter creeps forward, they'll find they are barely able to afford home heating bills, and the prospect of doing much Christmas shopping will seem remote as they find they are having a harder time paying off debt as the credit crisis expands. The economy is only one reason in a long list of why McCain does not have a chance against Obama. Current polls be damned, as the economy dive bombs and Iraq descends into further chaos, come November the rest of the country will discover what I already know: John "W. Jr." McCain is the worst thing that could happen to this country.
