If you haven't figured it out by now, I don't care much for Tom Brokaw. I think he's a hack. I've always thought he was a hack. He is one of the first of the Actors-Playing-Journalist, and he's never even been good at that. I put him in the same class as I do McCain. Both men a trying very hard to pretend that they good at what they are pretending to do, but in both cases they fail in their pretense as much as in the purpose of their roles.
McCain pretends that he's an honest "maverick", even though his record clearly shows that he's a corrupt, compulsive liar, easily bought off with a pittance. He's suddenly a maverick when he pretends to buck his party once or twice (only after that party bucked - more like 'fucked') him first? McCain is a fraud and a liar. Pity on those who are too blind or stupid to see that.
Brokaw, on the same hand, pretends that he's a ruff and gruff newsman, when in fact he is just a smarmy actor poorly performing as a newsman, much like Stone Phillips. Apparently, if you have enough "gravitas", you can fool people into thinking you know what you're talking about. Stephen Colbert has put the truthiness to that power, whereas Brokaw has only sought power.
Now we recently learned that recently Brokaw has taken to abusing that power he has so long sought, just like McCain has done with his. Tommy Boy took to shoving some folks around at NBC to force Olbermann and Tweety off of anchor positions recently because he didn't like that they were speaking unwelcome truths about his good friend John McCain, the war hero. (You should know that Brokaw has a hard-on for war heroes, as I've mentioned before. Read his books to find out, but get them from the library so as not to give that overpaid blowhard any more money that he doesn't deserve.) In their place, Tommy has proferred his pathetic minion, David Gregory. I'll save my vitriol for Gregory for a later post.
Believe it or not, I actually rank Brokaw and Gregory in that muck that inexplicably exists beneath the bottom-feeders like Hannity and O'Reilly. See, Hannity and O'Reilly may say that they are "fair and balanced journalists" with tongues firmly planted in their cheeks, knowing full well that the entire statement is completely false. But they don't pretend to be fair, nor balanced, nor even journalists.
Conversely, Brokaw - and Gregroy - say and pretend that they are fair and balanaced, when in fact they are neither. And they are not journalists in the true sense of the word. That is far and away worse, because they are on that same level as McCain and W. They claim to be worthy of respect, and claim to be doing hard and ungratifying work, and they martyr themselves on the crosses of false humility and imagined moral superiority, when all the while their actions betray their true motives of hunger for access and power.
Suffice it to say that I think McCain, Brokaw, Gregory, and George W.
Bush are all cut from the same cloth, and I wouldn't use that cloth to
line a dog's bed.
It is shameful that so many people have been fooled for so long by these callous, craven self-serving power-mongers. It is gratifying to see the twilight setting on the disasterous ruins these abusers have left in their wake. But, it is exciting to see the dawn of a new America rising for people who have struggled long and hard to ensure the Idea of America is never lost, nor stagnant, but always progressing towards the goal of shining brighter as a beacon of hope and prosperity, but most importantly - equality.
